„Index Zolkiewensis“ (1884, 1885), „Opt documente române privitoare la mănăstirea Putna“ (1886), „Vechile aşezăminte româneşti“ (1887), „Mihai Vodă şi moşnenii din Suharul“ (1887), „Cronica lui Ureche despre ocoalele iugaene“ (1893), „Runc“ (1894), „Anul de la Marte în Moldova în timpul lui Alexandru cel Bun“ (1905), precum şi o mulţime de poezii, adunate de Şt. O. Iosif în volumul, prefaţat de Iorga, „Poezii postume” (1908), definesc o personalitate faţă de memoria căreia avem datorii uriaşe.

Voievodul

În tăcute bolţi din veacuri doarme-n pace Voievodul,

Mâinile scăldate-n sânge stau pe piept, evlavioase,

Peste dânsu-n risipire zace lumea lui cea veche

Lespezi vechi şi slove şterse, candele ce nu mai ard.

Şi la căpătâi se roagă un călugăr ce nu ştie

Că din aburul albastru Dumnezeu a dispărut.

Dar în ceas de miază-noapte clopotul când sună jalnic

Voievodul se trezeşte

„Eu din vechea strălucire vreau să ies azi la divan,

Logofete, mergi de adă din muzeu pecetea ţării

Şi spătarul să aducă spada mea vândută-n Londra!“

Logofătul nu-l aude şi spătarul său nu vine –

Goale-n ceas de miază-noapte oasele-i sclipesc în lună.

The Prince of Moldavia

Under quiet vaults of ages, the Moldavian prince is resting,

Reddened, his large hands are lying on his chest in piety,

Over him, lavishly present, his old world’s silently living

Tombstones old, letters erased, quenched candles and a monk

At the head of the bed praying and ignoring simple facts.

That from There, exempli gratia, from the blue, the God is gone.

But at midnight, when the bells mournfully begin to toll

Awake is Moldavia’s prince:

„I will, from my old dead splendour, make my way to the divan1,

Logofat2, get the Moldavian seal back from the museum

And the spatar3 shan’t return from London without my sword!“

But the logofat can’t hear him and his spatar shall not come –

Bare at midnight time, his bones give a pale moonlight reflection.
